Over 2,000 (unduplicated) individuals served in fiscal year 2006-2007 through our four programs.
LifeWorks! – a transition program for those returning to the community.
- 893 individuals with criminal records received services to become employment ready.
- 82% of those who completed our Employment Readiness Workshop and obtained employment remain out of prison/jail compared to 30% of those released who do not receive re-entry services.
- 564 inmates received correspondence services or attended presentations to prepare for release.
Families Doing Time – a program to prepare inmates to reenter the family and to provide support for families during a loved one’s incarceration.
- 323 inmates participated in our Family Ties parenting classes.
- 178 children were able to have a contact visit with an incarcerated parent to maintain their family bond rather than the normal visit separated by a glass wall.
The ECO Center for Women – a 20 bed work release program for women who are nearing the end of their state prison sentence.
· 27 women received transitional services at this center. These women:
- Earned $249,518.21 through their jobs
- Paid $45,260.89 in restitution
- Paid $10,976.04 in child support and an additional $10,377.85 in voluntary child support.
- 87% of the residents released from the facility remain out of jail or prison compared to 60% who did not participate in our program
A United Way Central Carolinas study shows that for every dollar contributed to The Center for Community Transition, $43.00 is saved incarceration costs in addition to the return to the local economy.
